This was shot on the UES of Manhattan and at The MET using Cinestill 800T; probably my favorite film stock. I shoot a lot of 400D, which I now shoot in place of Portra, except on my Pentax 6X7 but that’s another post, but I always find myself coming back to 800T. I like fast film because I enjoy shooting stopped way down and I love shooting nights. I don’t know what it is but it’s incredibly flexible and just always gives me solid images. While I feel 400D gives me more “cinematic” and or dramatic images, I feel 800T gives me more painterly like shots.
I would say my highs are SLIGHTLY higher with 400d but my lows way lower, I will strike out hard sometimes on 400D, while my 800T rolls I like almost all the rolls I push through even if they aren’t all bangers. Funnily enough one of my shots, of a parking garage at night is a total miss but it’s not the 800T more my dogs yanking me while I’m trying to get the shot, and I still think it looks kinda cool. Most of the other shots that I missed are shots if typically miss, missing focus in the subway or deciding I want to shoot a subject too late and miss.
I’ve spoke about missing focus before on my mamiya 645. It happens A LOT, I LOVE the camera so just accepted the fact I’d have some bad misses and have to take those with the good shots I’m able to produce, however recently someone recommended to me I use the diopter because it would make a big difference and well it has. I shied away from it because I like looking through the waist level finder itself better, but there is no denying it is a huge differences
Anyway enough pontificating and intellectualizing, here are the pictures.
